USED ENGINE VERSUS REMANUFACTURED ENGINE
Buying a used engine versus remanufactured engine? Seems like you need to do your homework. Many people go with a used engine due to the cost savings. Rather, in the long run this can have a damaging affect as the warranty will run out and leave the owner in a financial bind if something goes wrong relativity soon.
USED ENGINE
Used components are pulled directly from a vehicle – typically a junkyard vehicle – and generally not even so much as surface cleaned. Furthermore there are no provisions for disassembly, internal cleaning, or inspection with a used component. Used or junkyard components may have high mileage and a poor maintenance history. Rather a failure waiting to happen. While many used or junkyard components come from a vehicle that was involved in an accident and may have unseen damage. These engines usually don’t carry a warranty longer than 30 days and can have high mileage on them to begin with.
REMANUFACTURED ENGINE
To remanufacture is to make as close to new as possible. All core material – head and block castings, crankshaft, camshaft and rods – are carefully inspected. While being checked against original equipment measured specifications for correct dimensional tolerances and precisely machined. Replacement parts are new to meet exacting standards and tolerances. Testing is performed to manufacturer measured specifications and original production standards.

[…] Buying A Used Engine Or Remanufactured Engine? […]
Cool article about used engines and re-manufactured ones. I didn’t know a re-manufactured engine could mean that it’s rebuilt to make it as new as possible while still meeting original production standards. I’m kind of interested to learn if there’s different levels of this, in case it can tell someone how “new” the engine is.
